Eric,
I would love to correspond with you, and share family information.I wanted to email you, but you left no email address with your message. Please feel free to Contact me at:
[email protected]
I have been in touch with Frank Siegwart of Trout Lake, he is my mom's cousin. He had some information which steered me in the right direction for Magdalena's Braun's family (which I have the entire lineage back to the 1500's now). But alot of the information he had on Gottlieb Siegwart and his 1st wife was wrong!
This is the only information I have on your family: Descendants of John Siegwart
1John SIEGWART b: 1882 in Michigan
.+Ruth DAVEY b: September 11, 1895d: November 1982
2Harriet SIEGWART
2Elaine SIEGWART
2Robert SIEGWART
2June SIEGWART
2Clare SIEGWART
2Fern SIEGWART
2Kenneth SIEGWART
2Roberta SIEGWART
2Conrad SIEGWART
2Dean SIEGWART
2Perry SIEGWART
I have found that Gottlieb immigrated to Hay twp., Ont. Canada in 1873 with his mother Elizabeth. He married Elisabeth Zimmer in Ontario on Oct. 30, 1877. Her parents were John and Sarah Zimmer. I haven't been able to locate Birth Records for John Siegwart. It's so very hard as they mangled the spelling of the surname in so many different ways. On the 1920 census records Gottlieb states he was born in Wuerttemberg, Germany, and his father was born in Lorraine (Alsace-Lorraine). Siegwart's also show up in the records of Baiersbronn, Germany which isn't that far from Alsace or Switzerland. Their are famous Glassmaker families with the Siegwart surname.
Gottlieb Siegwart was a Stone Mason, as your family said, and also a farmer. Huron Co., Michigan biographical books, and census records verified him as being a stone mason.
I have been unable to find death records for his mother Elizabeth, and his wife Elisabeth Zimmer.Frank, insists his 1st wife was Catharine (possibly Diller), and that both his mom and her are buried in Sebewaing, Michigan.I have walked every cemetery in Sebewaing, and I can't find them.
So much I want to share, and ask you, PLEASE PLEASE email me. I knew there had to be alot more cousins out there somewhere.I sure hope to hear from you soon!!!!!!!!
