My gggrandfather was named DAVID SYDNEY/SIDNEY DABBS (b. 1812 N.C.). The DABBS FAMILY has connections, among others, to the CARRAWAY FAMILY. JOHN CARRAWAY, SR. (b. 1620 York Co., Engl.) was brought to America as an indentured servant to JOHN SYDNEY. Would anyone with a SYDNEY/SIDNEY connection have any information on these people? I feel that DAVID SYDNEY DABBS' father was JOHN DABBS (Rev. Soldier) who was born in Charlotte Co., 22 March 1762. He was the eldest son of NATHANIEL DABBS (Rev. Patriot). NATHANIEL and his family moved to Anson Co., N.C., where they lived for quite some time. NATHANIEL DABBS moved to Union Co., S. C., where he was a sheriff or some type of law officer. NATHANIEL died there in 1800.leaving a will that names his children. Among his children was a daughter, MARY, who married SETH STRANGE. NATHANIEL'S wife's name was ELIZABETH ---?---. JOHN DABBS, NATHANIEL'S son, married JANE "SIS" GADDY, dau. of THOMAS GADDY, who lived in Anson Co., N.C. She died, supposedly in c1800. I have no real data for her death. JOHN DABBS left Anson Co., and went to DeKalb Co., Georgia, where he had received land, and this was where he died in 1833. Besides the families mentioned previously, the DABBS FAMILY has connections to the HOGGATT/HOCKETT (Quakers), JACKSON, BROWN, VINSON/CENT, RATLIFF, SMITH, HUNTLEY, WEBB (THEODORICK) and HAMPTON families that I know of. An earlier JOHN DABBS came into Virginia c1630s; went into court and "demanded the land promised him in Marlyand"; lived in Anne Arundell Co., Md., where he md. NAN EATES or EVANS. After NAN died he moved to Kent Co., Md., where he md. ANNIKE (NAN/ANN - Swedish - NAN/ANN is anglicized name) (HANSON/AN), (ELENA/ELENOR was a Portugese) (MacKENNY/IE). JOHN & ANNIKE had one child, a girl named LETTICE. JOHN & his first wife, ANN, had several children, but I can only find one son, also named JOHN. The DABBS FAMILY shows up in Virginia, across the Chesapeake, then down through Virginia. Later the family moved down into North Carolina, just across the Virginia line; then down to Anson Co. I would greatly appreciate it if there is anyone who could give me some information on the history and genealogy of JOHN SYDNEY, if possible. Thanks so much for your time.
