DNA links Johannes Seitz (1740-1793) to Adelshofen
Posted by: Karl Seitz (ID *****7723) Date: July 21, 2005 at 19:07:08

For several years, descendants of Johannes Seitz who died in York County, Penn., in 1793, have sought to prove he came to America in 1764 from the village of Adelshofen near Eppingen in Baden, Germany, with his new bride, Catherine Ripp/Reub. Thanks to DNA testing, we now have that proof.
The Y-chromosome DNA of a Seitz who lives in Adelshofen matches the DNA of four American descendants of Johannes on from 23 to 25 of 25 markers. This indicates we are all descendants of Franz Seitz, who was born about 1606, perhaps in Austria, and who died 11 Jan. 1686 in Adelshofen. Franz first appears in the church records of Adelshofen in 1655.
This DNA testing was done as part of Deb Harper's Sides/Seitz/Sites/ Sitz/Scites
DNA Reconstruction Project, which can be found at www.sideslines.org/SidesDNAProject.asp
