Col. Peter Sides
Posted by: Susan Clawson (ID *****7197) Date: December 29, 2004 at 09:10:08

I am looking for information on Peter Sides, the son of Sarah Barr and John Sides. I believe Peter was born about 1819 in Lancaster Co, Pa, probably in Bart township.

I found a military record for a Peter Sides, listing him as Col. of the 57th PA Infantry, with wife Amelia H. He may have died aboaut 1878.

I found that Lt. Col. Peter Sides was listed with this regiment at Fredricksburg, and Col. Peter Sides was listed at several other battles, including Gettysburg. Col. Peter Sides was injured at the Battle of Gettysburg so badly that someone else had to take over command of the regiiment.

Now I find that this regiment was not raised in Lancaster county, but Mercer and Alleghany counties. On the Mercer county genweb, it says that a Col. Peter Sides of Mercer Co, PA resigned his commision in the 57th Infantry in 1865.

So, I am looking for more information on Peter Sides of Mercer county so I can tell if this is the Peter Sides I am looking for.

Thanks,
Susan
