Never knew father, looking for any info. on family

My father left us when I was born and my mother never would speak of him or his family. I believe that she changed the spelling on the last name to keep any info. concerning him from me. I am now 64 and have hit blank walls on this issue. His name was Llyod Paul (Sidebottom, Sydebottom or Sydebotham), his father and mother were believed to have lived in Missoury. Their names were thought to have been Lee and Myrtle, but no solid evidence has been found to verify this. I would like to find out something about my paternity before it becomes too late.
