SHUTTS Daniel/Sarah 1850 and later

I have been trying to find my Great Great Grandmother Bennett's (Sarah C. Shutts) parents. My theory, is that I have.

Sarah was born in 1847, and married Stephen Beers Bennett in (about) 1867 in New York. She lists both Illinois and Indiana as her birthplace on Censes of 1880-1920. My mother said she was born in Terra Haute.

I've found a Daniel Shutts (B: 1820, NY) who was a teacher in Crawford County Ill and a wife Louisa (B 1827?, NY) with daughters Sarah 3 y/o and Nancy A. 1 Y/o.

He doesn't seem to be in Crawford Cty Ill in 1860, but there is a 13 Y/o Sarah living with John Bennett & Clemena (SHUTTS) Bennett in New York (Schyler Cty) next door to Stephen Beers' residence.

Does anyone have any trace of Daniel.

As I can find no references to Daniel in 1870 (so far) in the Census I am also wondering if he was in the Civil war or otherwise died between 1850 (or so) and 1870?
