Shuttleworth of Gawthorpe pt1
Hi all,
I have been working through on some info of the Shuttleworth family or should I say different branches or connections that I got while I was in England, and also to see where by grandfather was born.
The Gawthorpe family line, I feel that it is regarded as the main line or branch of the family because it had a lot of info recorded and dated back toHenry De SHUTTLEWORTH and Agnes De HACKING who married about 1330.
There children;
John who inherited Hacking Hall, Pardoned by John of Gaunt for outlawery in 1375
Ughtred, b abt 1330 was the first Shuttleworth at the Gawthorpe location. Ughtred was living in 1388 - 1389
Thomas
Robert
William
Henry De SHUTTLEWORTH,a cadet in the house of Shuttleworth at Shuttleworth Hall, in Hapton temp Edw III still living in 1388
John's line I have more info on
Ughtred'sline there is a lot of info but there is a question about the dates and descendants or was a generation missed?
Hugh Shuttleworth born abt 1390 of Gawthorpe.(Hugh of Gawthorpe, the name of whose wife has not been preserved, but he was living in the 3rd Edward 4th (1463/4) and his son and heir was Lawrence).
Lawrence SHUTTLEWORTH b abt 1427 of Gawthorpe. (of Gawthorpe, was living in 1464 temp Edw IV
living 1527 Lawrence of Gawthorpe who married Elizabeth, second daughter of Richard Worsley, Esq., of Mearley or Merley, and also of Twiston, by Isabel, daughter of Henry Townley, Esq., of Barnside. The son and heir of Lawrence Shuttleworth was Nicholas of Gawthorpe.
Lawrence Shuttleworth and Elizabeth his wife in 1504 made a settlement of her part of the Worsley estate in Twiston. This part was in 1527 sold by the Shuttleworths to Thomas Lister).
