Thanks for your response.
Linda or Lindie Shurtleff was my grandfather's first cousin.Their mothers were sisters, daughters of William Carroll Sypert and Permelia Perry. In my grandfather's papers, I found the text of a telegram from him to his brother.I am sorry that I do not have that paper in front of me, as I have recently moved, and it is still in a box.But the gist of the telegram was that "Linda" had died the day before, my grandfather was arriving with the body on the next day, and could his brother meet him. There is no date, and in my branch of the family there is no Linda, but she was obviously someone known (and important) to my grandfather and his brother. This Lindie is the closest relative I could find, but there is no indication in the telegram of her relationship. My grandfather remained close to this branch of his family (as a child, I can remember Bessie, the widow of Lindie's brother George, visiting in the home of my grandparents), so if the Linda of the telegram turned out to be this Lindie it would not surprise me.In 1910, both my grandfather and his brother were living in Bell County, Texas. At the time of his WWI draft registration, the brother was living at Purcell, Oklahoma.By 1920, the brother had moved to Kansas.I can see no indication that Lindie or any of her family were in Oklahoma or Kansas, so I believe this telegram was sent sometime between 1910 and 1917.
If any of this information rings a bell with something you have found in your research, please let me know.I am happy to share what I have on the Syperts and Perrys, as well.
