Two Bibles with Shurtleff family records are being auctioned on Ebay.

The description of this Bible includes the following information -

1838 Bible
Name on cover is "Mary J. Nye". Inside cover and presentation page have the surnames 'Shurtleff', 'Nye', and 'Rhodes'.

Pasted on inside cover and presentation page are some obituaries and hand-written notes, which read as follows:

"DIED In Clairmont N.H. on the 26th, Mrs. Mary R. Nye, wife of Hon. Johathan Nye, of C. and daughter of Anthony Rhodes, Esp. of Philipsburg, L.C. - then a prayer follows. ~ Next is a small obit: "SHURTLEFF - in this city, April 13th, Mrs. Mary J. Shurtleff, wife of Dr. G.A. Shurtleff, of heart disease, aged 59 years, etc etc. ~ Next is a small obit for one 'Georgia Anna Shurtleff', who died on August 20, 1893. Pasted underneath this obit is a hand-written note that reads: "Adopted daughter of Dr. G.A. Shurtleff and his wife Mary Jane Shurtleff deceased of Stockton, Cal. Adopted in 1860". ~ Next is another obit for Mrs. Mary J. Shurtleff, "wife of Dr. G.A. Shurtleff, Superintendent of the Stockton Insane Asylum, which occurred this morning, etc., etc. Underneath this obit is a note that says: "The Bible of her youth".
Also found in this Bible is a very old, small paper from a note pad from 'NORTH BRITISH AND MERCANTILE INSURANCE CO. Of London and Edinburgh'. On the back side of this paper is the autograph "G.A. Shurtleff".
Apparently, Mary J. Nye married Dr. G.A. Shurtleff, and adopted Georgia Anna Shurtleff in 1860. The first obit, for Mary "R" Nye, must have been either Mary J. Nye's mother or sister.

The second Bible may be viewed at:

Full names are Charles Shurtleff, Abbe Francis Shurtleff, Albert Partridge, Hannah Shurtleff, Henry Hutchinson, Grace Alberton Shurtleff, Samual Shurtleff, Abbie Ireland, Marion Louise Partridge, (later Marion Louise Bloomfield).
