The only thing I coulfd find concerning a John Shufelt and living in Dunham and died in 1810 in Brome was the following exerpt in Cyrus Thomas' History of the Eastern Townships, 1840 states:
Among the early settlers here(Scottsmore) was William Shufelt, from a place near Hudson , New York. After the close of the revolution, he came to Canada, settling at Caldwell's manor, where he lived until 1800, when he came to Dunham and took up the lot now owned by Jedediah and Moses Scott. He lived there for 8 years and then went to Brome, where he died in 1810, leaving 10 children, the majority of whom settled in this vicinity. Mr. Shufelt was a moral and industrious man.

From the old deeds it is found that on Feb. 22, 1800, he purchased Lot 21 in Range One, Dunham Township from Thomas Dunn, and it was deeded by his son John to Lemuel Scott. According to an article which appeared in the Cowansville Observer in 1871, William came to Dunham in 1795, and if this is correct he must have just settled as "squatter" for no land had then been granted--perhaps he chose the lot which he afterwards purchased.
William died July 1810, in his 51st year of age. he is buried in the Scott Cemetary at Scottsmore, on land which he originally farmed. In 1936 his gravestone was the oldest in the cemetary still visible. He had a son John Shufelt, who was born ,November 1, 1782
Hope this helps a bit. Sheila Perry Shufelt
