Matt, I agree with you that the coat of arms shown and the history attached is inaccurate. I assume that your immigrant ancestor was very likely one Daniel Jouy b. 6 April 1703 in Oggersheim. in present day Germany and who died in 1777 in Bethel Twp., Lancaster County, now part of Lebanon County, Pennsylvania, and is thought to have been buried in the cemetery at Klopp's Church in the village of Hamlin, Pennsylvania. The family landed in Philadelphia on 19 September 1732 aboard the galley "Johnson" of London, master David Crockett. The name changed to Schuey, later to Shuey, and in some cases Shewey, after Daniel and his family arrived. He could not write his name and made his mark on his will. The Jouy family escaped religious persecution in France where they had lived for at least two centuries - we have traced the family history back to Hilaire Juy b ca 1520.in France. The Jouy's became Calvinists and were forced to flee from religious persecution into the protestant Rhineland near Ludwigshafen in the latter part of the 17th century from their former home on the east bank of the Moselle River where they worked as vintners.
