Eric, there have been several articles on how to trace your roots on the ancestry.com web site. You may have to search back a few months to find one, but when you do there will be links to others.
Start with yourself and work back thru your parents and grandparents. Document the facts as you go - try to provide a reference or source for each date or place you record.
If you e-mail me or post the names of your parents and Shrum side grandparents, I will try to link you to more of your Shrum side ancestry.
