In Reply to: Dan'l & Susana Shroyer, Bedford Cty PA by Aimee Stout Vance of 773

A HUGE update on this line. I should have done this over a year ago.

First, Susana "Boyer" IS Susana Sturtz. The Boyer is a cousin, and has nothing to do with Susana Sturtz Shroyer, wife of Daniel. That I was finally able to clarify, thank goodness.

Here is some more info, most of it updated, spouses added, errors corrected and all of that stuff that we like...

DANIEL (JOHANN DANIEL)4 SHROYER was born Bet. 1760 - 1770 in Bucks/Berks (now Northampton) County (two different citations for location), PA, and died 1827 in Daniel Shroyer Tract, (now) Juniata Twp., Bedford County, PA. Now owned by Retired Veterinarian Whitman.. He married SUSANA RACHAEL STURTZ Abt. 1786 in Comps Church, Gladdens, Bedford County, PA, daughter of CHRISTIAN STURTZ and CATHARINE HAHN. She was born 1771 in Bucks County, PA, and died April 22, 1856 in Buried on farm in Shroyer Cem on Shroyer tract, now Widman farm. Died of cancer? (or was that Daniel?).

Daniel's brother Philip was born in 1764. He married 1784-ish. Moved to Ohio 1806. Died in Ohio 1826.
Philip is "said to be" the eldest child.
Daniel's parents are STILL unknown, however there are several options out there. Let's consider them:

Family written and oral history strongly states that Daniel came west from Baltimore. There were two ways west at the time, Phila west thru PA to Bedford, via the forts, OR, Phila to Baltimore, then to Frederick MD, then to Bedford. There are many Schroyers of all spellings in Frederick and down into VA at the time, fewer still on the road west to Bedford, PA, but they do exist.

Some of the potential DADS of Daniel and Philip of Bedford County! :

Johannes Schreyer/Schroyer OR J. Heinrich OR J. Georg, Immigrants & brothers. Most oral and written family tree evidence points to Johannes as being the father or GRANDFATHER of Daniel and Philip. Nothing has proven this relationship beyond reasonable doubt....

Ludwig Schroyer, Immigrant or son of immigrant? His family:
SON Johan Leonard SHROYER

Leonard's Kids - according to one site. Note to be mixed up with my Philip (brother of Daniel) in Ohio around 1806 in Muskingum County, These different Schroyer families all ended up in Ohio at practically the same time. Some of the kids names are the same - could they be cousins??

Now for Daniel and Susana INFO and their children:

Burial 1: 1827, Shroyer Cemetery, Juniata Twp., Bedford County, PA
Burial 2: Said to be buried on farm in the Shroyer Cemetery, probably unmarked, although there is one very large, flat inscribed fieldstone that still shows what appears to be "Dan" - thats all that is legible.
Died of: Cancer?; buried on the farm.
Documentation: February 24, 1808, Daniel Shroyer killed a panther where Will's Creek breaks Savage Mtn., Scalp payment order, Comm bills dwr 1., Bedford County Courthouse.
Notes (Facts Page) : Original Daniel Shroyer Tract was bought by son Daniel Shroyer. He deeded a portion to the church, and some passed to or purchased by Daniel Jr's adoptive son, Jn. Miller, and to brother-in-law, Jacob Waugerman. When Jacob passed, the land split ....
Notes (Facts Page) : Jacobs son Samuel took the Wagerman homeplace part. Son Philip F. bought the tract where the Shroyer church/cem and homestead once stood. The tract eventually passed to Smiths, Millers, then back into the PF family via Corleys, then to Vet. Widman.
Residence 1: Started at Comps in Kennells Mills then ended up at the Daniel Shroyer tract where Veterinarian Widman now lives. Built a 3 rm log house.
Residence 2: Land bordered his brother Philip.

Date born 2: March 26, 1775, Springfield Twp., Bucks Co., Pennsylvania; second source
Census: 1850, In home of her son Jacob, in Harrison Twp. She was 79 years old.
Notes (Facts Page) 1: Noah Tipton, who married Susana's daughter Elizabeth, was grandfather to Noah Tipton, who wrote history around 1900+/-, named Susana as a BOYER, met Daniel around Comps Church, but I think he confused her with neighbors and other (Boyer) relatives.
Notes (Facts Page) 2: Noah , Susana's grandson, remembered her, and noted that she died when he was 7.

2.       i.       DANIEL5 SHROYER, married Rachel Devore, daughter of Moses and ?. b. Bet. April 13 - 21, 1790; d. July 03, 1886, 90y3m18d (or 10d - stone hard to read).
3.       ii.       JACOB SHROYER, b. 1813; d. July 11, 1884, Wolf Camp Hollow, Juniata Twp., Bedford County, PA. He married (1) REBECKAH VALLENTINE June 04, 1835 in JP Josiah Miller. She was born 1816. He married (2) RACHEL ELLEN PIERCE Bef. 1860, daughter of UNKNOWN PIERSON. She was born Abt. 1823, and died 1897 in Wolf Camp Hollow, Juniata Twp., Bedford County, PA.

At the time that brothers Daniel and Philip lived side by side, Daniel and Philip both had sons named Jacob. Also, Philip's on Philip Jr, who stayed on in Bedford County when the rest of the family went to Ohio, also had a son named Jacob. Some researchers, maybe including myself, have mixed up spouses and/or children of the Jacobs. I am certain that the information that I have presented is backed by documentation, however, I cannot say 100% that I have fully established the lineage and names of each spouse of Jacob, son of Daniel. There are those who have Rachel with another last name. It is possible that Rachel was married twice. There is still some mystery surrounding them.

I have children of the above marriages, including the multiple marriage couples. Daniel and Rachel had not children of their own, but they raised a few orphans, including the Millers. For some families, I have lineages. If you write to me, email me directly at Please do NOT expect a speedy answer - but I WILL eventually get back to you.
