My dear cousin, Marjorie:
Please forgive me for being so tardy, but as you know, this site isn't all that active, and I don't check it daily/often.
I am both amazed and appreciative that I have finally heard from an original root.
I have tried for years to spark some life out of my Georgia kin, but until your nice response, nothing very meaningful.
Let me describe the bust portrait I have of our grandfather:
approx 24" X 30";
unspectacular background;
attired in dark coat;
creased,black broad brimed hat;
no tie;
shirt is buttoned to chin, closed with a black button at the top;
subject has side burns,a neat mustache (could be described as a walrus 'stache) and trimmed beard;
interesting, penetrating eyes.
The picture is glass enclosed;
the frame appears to be pine on the backside, with very fancy scroll work all over the front.
The front appears to have painted with white outside paint along the way, but is the same as when I first was aware of it many moons ago.
There is a heavy cardboard backing on the picture, which I have never removed.
To my personal knowledge, this picture hung in my grandmother's room (CALLIE DONNA (EVANS) SHROPSHIRE) from about 1930 until her death in 1970.
My grandfather, WALTER THOMAS SHROPSHIRE, died in 1963.
Both are interred at Laurel Land Cemetery, Fort Worth, TX.
I will be anxious to hear back from you, especially as to
Please reply to me at:
Again, I was so pleased to hear from you.
Louie F. Turner.
