My maiden name was Shoop and the earlier spelling was Shoup.

My gg-grandfather was Jonas Shoup and his brother was Jacob. My branch of the family came to Hancock County, Ohio, probably soon after the birth of my great grandfather Daniel in 1839. I very thoroughly researched my family about ten years ago, but have never known anything further back. They always said they were Pennsylvania Dutch and from Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.

Just in case you don’t know, the main city in Hancock County is Findlay (home of Marathon Oil). We are about 50 miles south of Toledo where I now live.
