Hello John,
I am looking for any information regarding a John Shortt and Mary Ann Fitzgerald, both from Ireland, possibly Tipperary or Waterford. They had a son born in County Tipperary in 1830 or 1831, also named John Shortt.
On 3 Sep 1862, John Shortt (junior) married Harriet Burriss at Saint Mary, Edge Hill, Lancashire, England and they immigrated to New Zealand on the ship Belgravia, arriving in Auckland on 10 May 1865. I found that a Sarah and Maria Blackmore also came to NZ on the Belgravia in 1865.
Harriet died on 6 January 1866, aged 22. John married Maria Blackmore, who was born in Ireland (or possibly Bristol, England), and died in Auckland on 9 Sept. 1919 aged 84, making her year of birth either 1834 or 1835.
From their wedding certificate, John Shortt, married Maria Blackmore on the 20 Feb. 1866 at Elliots Point, (Henderson?), Auckland, NZ. The signature, as the witness on the wedding certificate, is a John Blackmore.
John & Maria Shortt settled in Mangere Bridge, Auckland and they had seven children:- Marianne, Edward, Richard, George, Emma, Harry (my grandfather) and Harriet.
John Shortt died at Mangere Bridge on the 28 Jan 1905 aged 74, making his year of birth either 1830 or 1831.
Do any of the above names have a connection with your Shortt family tree?
Seasonal Greetings from New Zealand, Logan Shortt.
