John,

Thanks for the quick reply. You have cleared up some things, but I still have some questions.

Are we sure that the wife of Wm. Short II was in fact Mary Rookins/Rookings? There doesn't seem to be another Rookins family around for Mary Short to be the cousin of Wm. Rookins II when he left his will in 1676. My guess is that her name is not Rookins but because Wm. mentioned her as a cousin, the assumption was made that she was a Rookins. She could have been a Baxter or Agborough just as well.

I also have a George Middleton II m. to a Katherine Hunt whose supposed brother Wm. Hunt m. a Sarah Wyche/Wych. What is confusing about Katherine Hunt being the d/o Wm. Hunt and Sarah Knott is that both Wm and Sarah were supposedly b. 1661 and 1659 respectively. This would mean that Katherine could not have been b. before ca. 1680 which was the time she was supposedly married. My guess is that she is a sister to Wm. Hunt who m. Sarah Knott and not Wm.'s daughter.

If you are correct about Geo. Middleton who m. Sarah Short being dec'd ca. 1674 then he couldn't have m. a dau. of Thomas Weeks. There is another Thomas Middleton who was a tythable in Surry Co., VA in 1668 which means he was b. bef. 1648 which could make him a b/o George and he could be the Middleton that m. the d/o Thomas Weeks and they had a son Thomas. I will need to see what I can find on this Thomas who seems to be elusive for now.

Thanks again for your info.

Walter Weeks
