If you do a search in the 1880 cenus for Chartier in St. Clair County, Michigan at http://www.familysearch.org, you will find a Jessy Chartier daughter of a Pfilemont Chartier. Jessy was age 2 in 1880 which means she was born around 1878. Could this be the Jessie Shorkey you are looking for? There were many Chartier families in St. Clair County in 1880. However, in the cenusus records, the name has been spelled Shorkey, Shirkey, Shirky, Sherkey, etc. I would guess that Pfilemont is Philomene and her husband probably had died. I have a Hyacinthe (also called Stephen) Chartier married to a Philomene Lemonde at Immaculate Conception church in Anchorville, MI on 27 Mar 1870. He was buried in Anchorville on 1 Mar 1880.
