5-34 David Shorey was orphaned at the age of 5, and was brought up by Walker cousins. David had 25 acres in Rutland VT, where he joined the Queens Loyal Rangers in 1777, and was present at the first Battle of Saratoga. All Vermont property, of those who joined the British Army, was seized Oct. 15, 1777. Canada gave him 100 acres, then a total of 200 acres, then 400 acres. Pg 23 Shorey book
