Hi Michael, sorry It has been so long. I have just read your messages because I have been away on vacation. I too can only find b. in Canada as the birth listing for Joseph. I am having a very hard time finding the actual migration of this family. I asked my grandfather if he knew anything about the birthplaces or the times the names were changed and he does not know. He can only recall being told that he is French Canadien and that his name was originally spelled or pronounced, Charest and that it was changed because his ancestors moved illegally into the country. He believes that is very possible that at one point, Charest was changed to shores and finally to Shorey but he does not have any actual documents to show the name changes. In fact all of the ancestors that we have listed, are all Shoreys. The theory on the Naudin-Nelson connection is one that I am going to pursue, and I have heard of the french using 2 surnames but didn't think of it. THANK YOU!!! I will keep pursuing this and let you know of any more developments. Thanks again! HAPPY HUNTING!!! Tammy
