I believe that the John Henderson Shook that you referred to was the son of Abraham Shook (Shuke) in 1820 & 1830 census) of Iredell Co., NC. He was born abt 1800. He is listed in Abraham's will dated 10 Jan 1832 and went through probate in May 1832. The inventory of his estate was dated April 1832.
He married Ann Turbyfill 18 Sep 1830 in Lincoln Co., NC. They can be found in Hamilton Co., TN in 1850 and Morgan Co., AL in 1860. They had at least 10 children including a daughter Nancy born abt 1835 in NC.
According to the census records, their last two children, (William b abt 1845 and Franklin b abt 1848) were born in GA.
It appears that they went from NC to GA to TN and then to AL. They were already in AL for the 1860 census.
