I have been researching Shoff relatives for my husband, who had Shoff ancestors living in Fairfield Co, OH in the mid 1800s. Having found the Jacob Shoff you mentioned in 1850 and 1860 census data from Lancaster, Fairfield Co OH I was interested in determining if he was related to my husband's line.
The census data in 1850 indicates that he (at age 35) is living in Lancaster with three daughters (ages 4,6,9) and his mother Ann (age 71). No wife is listed. His occupation is given as 'Driver'
The census data in 1860 (also in Lancaster OH) indicates he is living with a wife Sarah (age 27), the same three daughters from the 1850 census, and four new children: 3 girls and one boy. The youngest child, Elizabeth was three. Jacob's occupation is listed as butcher.
If you need copies of these files, let me know.
There were three Shoff brothers living with families of their own at the same time in Fairfield Co, James (b abt 1830), William (b 1832), and John (b 1833). William is in my husband's line. Have you ever run across a mention of these individuals?
