Dave,
I am not familiar with the name Arthur DeVere Shoaf. However, I will look at the material I have on the family and let you know. The history I have says that John Shoaf and Rachel Plum came to Ohio from Hardy county Virginia (now West Virginia) in 1812. They had five sons and five daughters, Abram, Jacob, John, Henry, Joseph, Nancy, Rachel, Catherine, Elizabeth, and Mary. The John Shoaf mentioned in the reunion message is the son of John and Rachel. The history argues that John Shoaf(Rachel’s husband) was a descendant of John Shofe listed in the 1790 Frederick County, Maryland census. I have heard that when the Shoafs came to North America they came to Pennsylvania. I have also heard that there is a very large Shoaf reunion in Pa., but I do not have a contact for that reunion. I will check the history and with others at the reunion. I will let you know what I find out.
Jane
