I found an Isaac and Sarah Shively in Deleware Cty IN, in the July, 1860 Liberty Twp, Selma, Indiana census; Isaac Shively b. Ohio, age 30; Sarah, age 25, b. Indiana. Isaac's occupation is cooper (barrel maker).
Children are: Henry age 6, Joseph age 4, Sarah A., age 2. All children were b. Indiana.
Look for these numbers in the census if you want to see or request the actual pages:
Series: M653Roll: 254Page: 728 (1860 census)
I found him again (I think) in the Jay County, Jackson Twp, Millers Corners 1870 Indiana census, though he's now listed as age 42 (not 40) with wife Sarah E., Henry B., Joseph A., Keziah A., John A. and William E. No Sarah A. is listed as she was in the previous census. Isaac's occupation is now listed as farmer.
Specs for this censusare:
Series: M593Roll: 327Page: 33
Go to www.nara.gov to apply to buy copies of the page (takes a long time), or you can buy cds that include this info from Ancestry and Genealogy.com (expensive, and may contain lots of irrelevant (to you, anyway!) info).
Also try your local library or historical society, or those of thecounty where the census took place----and don't forget to try the courthouse or regional vital records repository in the county where Isaac lived and/or died, to get his death or marriage or other certificates on file, if available.
There was no 1830, 1840 or 1850 census info available to me. These years can be very hard to locate (for various reasons--war, fire, flood, simply missing/mislaid, accidentally destroyed, etc). This is all the info I have, but I hope it helped.
Good luck to you in your search!
