hello again kim,
hmmm. where to start.
you do have a key date when you say you show peter and christiann getting married in 1858. you didn't mention where they were married. and it certainly could be that christiann did marry a widower peter shively. but to me it seems that it's not the peter shively from ionia, mi.
in the 1860 census i so show peter with wife sarah living in ionia mi. peter is 50, sarah is 56. living with them at the time is son daniel 21, and peter j. 19. they also have a young girl named amantha j. strainer 7 living with them.
the kids mentioned above, daniel and peter joined the army and fought in the civil war. daniel married before he left for war and his brother peter married right after the war.
both of those boys went right back to ionia after the war. so there was no 'haven't been in touch with peter and sarah.'
so i think that you know by now that you'll have to separate what you've heard from family members from what facts you find while doing your research. none of my info comes from family members. it all comes from the documents found.
i'm jealous that you have (had) a family that kept the lineage alive by talking about it. i did not have that.
but whe you temper that with the fact that some of it may be in error it makes you wonder if it helped or hurt.
my guess like i said is that i was just a different peter shively.
what do you think now?
