This comes from "Family Records of George S. Shively, MD and the Various Branches of the Family", a manuscript in the Penna. Hist. Soc. (call # Gen Sc4). The author's dates are 1829-1901. The pages are handwritten and so tightly bound that photocopies would lose a lot of words near the spine.
The family originated with Jacob and Ma. Catherine Shively in Weilheim, outside Kirchheim on the Teck in Wirtemburg. The name was Schaufelen and became Shively in PA and Scheiflen in NY. Two sons, George Adam (2/4/1732-1761) and Jacob (b. c. 1734) emigrated to Phila. on the "Rosannah" taking oaths on 9/26/1743. George Adam went back to Germany and returned 9/2/49 and later sent for his wife Julianna Catherina (c. 1732-11/3/1793) and their two sons, George (b. c. 1759) and Henry (b.c. 1761). George took an oath in 1777 but Henry was a minor and didn't take an oath until 10/12/1864.
George, married Elizabeth Steinfort and they had a son Henry. George fell into debt and went to Honduras to avoid creditors and to try to make money. He sent letters back but they stopped coming after 9/29/1790. His wife worked for her brother in law who helped raise the boy and taught him to make instruments. In 1793 she married Philip Painter (Chester Co. PA, 7/15/98) and a son Thomas. Their son, Henry Schively (10/17/1784-7/2/1863), m. Dorothea Schreiner (1/6/1788-2/10/1860, dau. of Christopher and Elizabeth Lowman Schreiner in the Ger. Ref. Ch. Phila. on 11/16/1809. Their children were Elizabeth (1811-83), George P.? (13-73), Henry (16-21), Charles (18-87), William H. (21-93), Frances (Francis?) (23-55), Ana (26-59), Julia (28-99), Albert (31-?), and Maria D (35-?).
The other son of George Adam, Henry (c. 1761-3/11/1811), m. Ann Lowman (c. 1762-7/15/1821, sister of Elizabeth, above) in the same church on 1/5/1786. Their children were Joshua ('86-'30), George (88-28, m. Mary Singer 1816), July Ann (91-66), William (93-45), Ann (95-29), Elizabeth (99, d. same day), and John (00-31). Henry Shively bought land on Powder Mill Lane near Frankford (north of Phila.) in 1795 and built houses there in 1795-98.
My interest is in the mother of the sisters, Ann and Elizabeth, Eva Guier Lohman (c. 1732-6/9/1766), wife of William Lohman (ropemaker, d. 10/31/1793), m. 9/26/1755. Her brother was Adam Guier (d. c. 11/23/1789), progenitor of a large family in Kingsessing and in Philadelphia (with many descendents in Costa Rica today).
