Not to impugn anyone's reading skills, but I wonder if "Jibe" is actually "Shibe" using some old script convention. There were some I know of that were inspired by printing font sets. The name of one of my ancestors was Philip Reissthough I had originally read the name as Reifs.Turns out convention called for writing the first of a two "s" combination so that it looked like a modern "f".Just a thought.
I'm always amazed by how insulated the various family groups get from one another. The Bucks County/Eastern group uses the names Martin I, Martin II, and Martin III as if there weren't any other people of that name. But as you know the name was also well-established in the Southern group.Because they were pleasant enough to invite me, I sometimes go to the family reunion of a Shive family descended from Martin of Pleasant Hill (IL).Though geographically they're now a northern group, genealogically they're southern.I have a herd of both Samuels and Jacobs in my background, which I'm sure are common elsewhere.
