While living in MO in 1850, the Clark Co., census records list a John Shirkey, living with James. This John was John Richard Shirkey a brother to my ggrandfather, William Shirkey, son of John Shirkey and Nancy Nelson of Meigs Co., OH. I thought that James Shirkey and Margaret Beale/Beals/Bailes were John's parents. Margaret Beale/Beals/Bailes was the daughter of Thomas Bailes. The spellings fluctuated. Thomas Bailes, b. abt 1750 in VA was married to Mary (?) abt 1775/80. Thomas died abt 1800 in VA. (Thomas's father was John Bailes-spelling?)
Their children were: Mary,(m. Joseph Moor May 24, 1804); Jane (m. Daniel Holiday Mar 24, 1804); Margaret Beal (m. James Shirkey Apr 26, 1800 according to "Botetourt County Marriages")Solomon Bail (m. Agnes Pearson/Pierson Feb 28/Jan 9, 1808); John Bail (m. Mary Foster Mar 3, 1807); Thomas (m. Ellen Foster Mar 15 1804). This info from Susan Bail Adams. I, too, am trying to find the connection of James and Margaret Shirkey to the Shirkey family. The marriage of James Shirkey and Margaret Beals was in Botetourt Co., VA so they must have had some connection to Patrick Shirkey's family.
