Based upon my records, your grandfather, Charles Shurkey was one of 16 children born to William and Anna Shurkey. I have your grandfather being born 14 March 1912 and dying 9 March 2002. If this is your family they go back to Guillaume Chartier who came to Montreal Island in 1653 as a member of the Grand Recruit. He helped build the first village which is now Montreal. His great grandson, Francois Chartier moved to Sandwich, Ontario in the 1780's where he married Marie-Amable Raymond Toulouse in Sandwich on 5 September 1786.They eventually settled in St-Clair County, Michigan. Today, this family has several surnames, such as Chartier, Shorkey, Sharkey, Shirkey, Shurkey, Sherkey, Chortie, Chorkey, and possibly Shawkey. I can share what I have on this family;just contact me at vlchartier@ieee.org
