I copied the email I got from Kathy giving me what little info she knows. She contacted me because I have a Garland Colvin in my database, and she thought there might be a connection.

dad's dad i think is either Hourand or Garland cant make it out b 1879
dad's mom i think is Katherine of whom i am named after

I found a birth record for Bertha Irene Shirk online which gave a birth date of 24 Jan 1917 and listed parents of Louis L. Shirk and Pearl Sellars, with the location being Kittitas, WA.
I found Louis and Pearl in the 1920 census Lacey, Thomas, KS
Shirk, Louis E. 36 b IA both parents b IL working as a farm laborer
Pearl S. 25 b MO father b PA mother b AR
Bessie J. 7 b WA
Henry 6 b WA
Bertha I 2 11/12 b WA
Ernest C. 1 5/12 b MO
