Shirer Family Genealogy Forum

Hi all,I have been beating a path back to when my ancestors came to America. There is a gap before my ancestor born in 1761 and I am trying to find his parents. The only way I can think of with what little information is available is by process of elimination. That is if I can disprove any one as his parent that is one step in the right direction. I would appreciate anyone recognizing any of the names in the following passenger lists to let me know what information you have. I have been in contact with many of you but this might be a good time to respond again. There has always been speculation about which family is which and I for one would like to get it all sorted out. I know it seems like a long shot, but it's worth a try. I believe these families did not have any members arriving before 1727. The original Palitines who arrived in NY and Virginia did not include any names even close. The only other possibility is a Sauer who was one of the group who came to Berks Co. from Schoharie Co., NY but that's a long shot. There were other Scherers who went to the Carolinas but though they may be connected back in Germany (no doubt some were) I will not include them here as I believe none of these people went to or came from the Carolinas. Any information as to what township they settled in, any tax record they appear in, Church records(other than the Egypt Reformed lists which are on line), and thing else that might prove or dissprove any relationship. The list is displayed as Date of Arrival, Ship's name, Passenger (List A,B or C) and the Master. All ships are out of Rotterdam. 1727, Sept. 30, Molley, A-SHIR, Jacob, Master-John Hodgrson 1730, Aug. 29, Thistle of Glasgow, SHERER, Johannes, Master-Calvin Dunlap 1730, Aug. 29, Thistle of Glasgow, A-SCHERRER, Johan Augustus, B-SHERER, Justice, Master-Calvin Dunlap 1730, Aug. 29, Thistle of Glasgow, A- SCHERER, Ulrich, Master-Calvin Dunlap 1732, Aug 11, Samuel of London, A-SCHEER, Samuel-age 21, B-SCHERER, Samuel, Master-Hugh Percy 1732, Aug 11, Samuel of London, A-SHEER, Veronica-age 46, Master-Hugh Percy 1732, Sept. 21, Pink Plaisance, A-SCHARER, Michael, Master-John Paret 1732, Sept. 21, Pink Plaisance, A-SCHERE, Jacob-age 65, B-SCHERS, Jacob, Master-John Paret 1732, Sept. 21, Pink Plaisance, A-SHEAR, Hans-age 27, Master-John Paret 1732, Oct. 17, Pink, A-SHEARE, Jacob, B-SCHERR, Johan Jacob, Master-Constable Tymperton 1733, Sept. 28, Richard and Elizabeth, A-SHERER, Hans-age 30, B-SCHURER, Hans, Master-Christopher Clymer 1733, Sept. 28, Richard and Elizabeth, A-SHERER, Maria Magdalena-age 22, Master-Christopher Clymer 1733, Sept. 28, Richard and Elizabeth, A-SHERER, Veronica-age 4mo, Master-Christopher Clymer 1733, Sept. 28, Richard and Elizabeth, A-SERER, Eva Catherina-age 4, Master-Christopher Clymer 1736, Sept. 1, The Harle, A-SCHERE, Valentine-age 19 SCHERER, Johan Valentin, C-SCHERER, Johann Vallentin, Master-Ralph Harle 1737, Sept 24, St. Andrew Galley, A-SCHYRE, Nicolaus B-SCHARER, Nicolaus, Master-John Stedman 1738, Oct. 25, Davy, A-SCHERER, Johan Matthias, Master-Wm. Lov[ell Paynter] Just in case anyone recognizes my ancestor his name is Valentine SHIRRAR b. Dec 09, 1761. His descendants go by SHIRAR and SHIRER. He moved to Muskingum Co., OH from Somerset Co., PA around 1809. He married an Elizabeth Kirby. I think he was living in what was in 1789 London Derry Twp which was then part of Bedford Co. I believe that area is now Northhampton Twp. Somerset Co. Where he was before there is the point of all this. It was thought his father was John SHIRER and brother Peter SHIRER of Somerset but it is beginning to look less likely that that is the case.
