Jane there is a Mary Jane SHIPMAN on the 1880 Census of Franklin Co., MO age 17 born in Missouri who is listed with a baby daughter named Della SHIPMAN. Mary J SHIPMAN was adopted by a George and Rachel Renshaw Couple in which she was living with. Franklin county is north of Gape G MO close to St Louis MO.

There was another Mary J SHIPMAN age 17 who was the Wife of Jacob Lee SHIPMAN a son of David Nutt SHIPMAN. I don`t know what her maiden name was but she was listed as a Dau in Law with Jacob living with his widdowed Mother wife of David Nutt SHIPMAN. But this line of SHIPMANs did marry native american women. This family was in Lawrence Co MO in 1880:
