Thank You so much for your response. My grandfather George Robert Lee was the informant on his mothers death certificate, he didn't know her parents first names, he has mother Brown, father Shipman & she was born in MO so he may not have given correct info. We were told his mother or grandmother was born on the Trail of Tears, lived in a cave at Cape Girardeau Missouri for a while, couldn't take care of her child & she was given to another family to raise. When Mary Jane Shipman got married she had on the marriage license she was born in Randles, MO which is on the border of Cape Girardeau County, Missouri & Scott County, Missouri. She died Dec 27, 1924 in Bollinger County, MO & is buried in the Crites Cemetery which was owned by the Crites Family & was on the original Crites Plantation. We were told everyone in there was related to the Crites in someway. I am wondering if the Crites Family raised her, there were Crites in Scott County, too. Mary Shipman would go to Southeast Missouri every year to pick cotton & her son,my grandfather, George Robert Lee did it too even with his children. All of my Lee's were in Cape Girardea, Scott. Mississippi, New Madrid, all Counties in Southeast Missouri. I haven't been able to find out anything on my great grandmother before her marriage to George Washington Lee other than she was married to a Botkins before she married him. Any help with her would be appreciated. Thank You.
