I am researching my grandmother's family. Her mother was a Salle & her father was a Shipley. Her father was Benjamin Franklin Shipley br 23 Oct 1858 in Harrison Co, Mo His father is George C. Shipley br 1832 in Kentucky of unknown parents both born in Kentucky. The C in George C Shipley is said to stand for Carlyle. Grandmother br Lucy Loren Shipley told of a grandfather that was wounded in the Civil War. I have a copy of enlistment 29 March 1826 at Bethany, Mo. mustered 21 Apr 1862 Cameron, Mo. as a Sergent Co. G, 6th Cavalry, Mo State Militia Volunteers. Discharged with physical disability 31 Oct 1863. I know George married in 1851 in Tazewell, Illinois to Mary Handley Thompson br 1833 Logan Co. Illinois. Mary was the daughter of David Gentry Thompson & Elizabeth Stafford. I have more on Mary Handley Thompson then I do on the Shipley's. They had nine children all born in Harrison Co. Mo except the first child born in Lazalle, Ill on 19 Dec 1853, that was Arthur David Shipley. The rest are Rachel Elvina, Charlotte Ann, Benjamin Franklin, Marquis Del le, William N, Sarah Jane, George USA, & Allen R. Shipley. His second wife was the widow of his friend & neighbor Joseph Dyer, Lucinda Dyer, they had one son together Rosco C. Shipley br 1879 Trail Creek, Harrison, Mo.
Can anyone tell me who George C. Shipley was decendant from remember they were both said to be born in Kentucky?
