Dear Julie, I am shooting in the dark, but I was a Shinnick and proud to be one. Our immigrant ancestor was Dennis, came about 1846 from County Cork, married Catherine Cunningham in Massachusetts (where he was a farm laborer) and homesteaded in Kewaunee County Wisconsin about 1855. There was a Richard who lived adjacent to him ( I should think a brother) and he named one of his two sons Richard. I corresponded with the very nice Dr. Thomas Shinnick of Watertown Wis. (long ago) Does any of this ring a bell? I submitted some of this on the internet long ago, but of course didn't keep notes (careless of me) so our line appears somewhere. Thank you for your kind attention, Jeanne PS--forget to mention that old Dennis was my great grandfather. My father was Edmund and my grandfather, Richard
