1 - The Carder researchers (who haven't emaild me back yet) say that there wasn't a Mary Day - she was Mary Shingleton. This was per letters found in the late 1880's. Here's the link - http://www.carderweb.com/John1767-01.asp

2 - I don't have a copy of the record, but here is the source (actually I may have a copy but I'll have to look) - Taylor County Law Order Book 1, page 468

3 - Jonathan Shingleton is who was in the 1792 with whom John Carder (and family?) are living (probably). This is NOT John Shingleton. This Jonathan I believe married Isabella Jett on 16 Dec 1796 in Culpeper and moved to KY. I think William, Jonathan, and Mary are siblings. There is another John Singleton/Shingleton (??? another brother) who was in Hampshire Co about the time William's son Absalom (my ancestor) was there, but he may have been unrelated as they didn't live in the same area.

4 - There was a John Shingleton earlier in Culpeper who I think could be their father - this is from my website:

"RECORDS FOR JOHN SHINGLETON

"There was also a John Shingleton at this time, most likely born about 1740. He appears to have been in Culpeper County and could also be another link to William, John, and Jonathan. This John appears to been in the VA Colonial Militia.

"September, 1758 - Cumberland Co, VA - a John Shingleton listed in Hening's Statutes at Large - VA Colonial Militia. Virginia Colonial Militia, 1651-1776 Certificates.

"An act of assembly, passed March 1758, the 31st year of the reign of King George II, some of the militia were called out for service in the early days of the French and Indian War, Annexed to this act, was a schedule of the names of the militia officers and soldiers, and the citizens who furnished provisions to that militia. This is the schedule pertaining to Culpeper County:

"CULPEPER COUNTY. l. s. d. To Valentine Sevear for provisions, 3 10 8 Benjamin Davis, do. 2 12 4 John Strother, do. 1 8 00 Joseph James do. for Indians, 2 1 4 David Johnston, do. 00 15 00 Valentine Sevear, for horse hire, 00 15 00 Michael Lawler, for provisions, 2 00 10 Richard Covington, for horse hire, 1 17 6 To William Slaughter, and Rueben Long, for do. 00 11 3 To John Parker, by colonel Martin's certificate, 13 00 00 To William Lightfoot, for carrying drafts to Winchester, as by account proved, and command of a company nine days, 10 16 3 To William Slaughter, lieutenant, 54 days, at 3s. 8 2 00 To John Payton, serjeant, Richard Doggett, do. 3l. 12s. each, 7 4 00 To Richard Ballenger, John Field, Thomas Slaughter, Francis Brown, Anthony Strother, Francis Strother, John Peyton, William Baker, William Edwards, Robert Scott, James Browning, Henry Stonsafer, William Wall, John Yancey, William Tutt, George Goggins, Nathaniel Parker, John Shingleton, Charles M'Queen, John Cox, John Powell, John Berry, Thomas Ray, Joshua Sherril, 54s. each, 64 16 00

"A John Shingleton was a witness to the Will of Roger Abbott on 2 July 1762 in Culpeper County, VA - Library of Virginia, Will Book A, 1749-1770 Culpeper Co, VA Reel 31, pages 295-298

"There is an entry for land - In "A Calendar of the Warrants for Land in Kentucky, Granted for Service in the French and Indian War" Abstracted by Philip Fall Taylor, I found a survey for a John Shingleton, soldier, 50 acres, April 14, 1785 by William Harvie, Fayette Co., on Boggs' Fork of Boon's Creek--small spring improved by Drake and John South. Ass'd to French Strother--to John Harvie. Could this could be the same John (would have been for service noted above in Henning's Statutes - is there a connection to the Jonathan Shingleton who moved to KY and was living in Fayette County???)"
