Marie: I have the pension record of a James H. Hampton. Hampton was the second husband of my gt grandmother Elizabeth Sutherlin Carey Hampton. In the records (Hampton suffered a gunshot wound in Civil War.) there is a General Affidavit of a Sarah Shigley. Sarah is 66 yrs old and lives in Labette County, Parsons KS. Date of Affidavit is 23 December 1891. She states "from my own personal knowledge by living with him (Hampton) all the time from 1863 to 1866 and from seeing him and hearing him complain of his above troubles ...." Is this the Sarah Hampton that was married to your gggrandfather George W. Shigley? Is she James H. Hampton's sister? I hope this isn't too confusing, but here goes. I'm looking for the parents and siblings of Elizabeth's mother Mary Fleming Sutherlin. Mary married Jackson Sutherlin in Indiana. They were from Indiana and Fremont Ohio (Sandusky Co.) Mary Fleming Sutherlin was born 1819. Do you have any of these names - or any Fleming names and locations in your research records? Witnesses, buying or selling land, etc. Thanks for any information you might be able to give. Patricia Carey Bishop
