SHIFFER, Daniel & Mary

Daniel SHIFFER, son of Daniel and Sarah (ELLIOTT) SHIFFER, wife Mary. Lived in Porter Twp., Clarion Co., PA in 1850 with children: William L. (age 17), Anna C. (age 15), John F. (age 12), Sarah P. (age 10), James M. (age 8), Harriet A. (age 5), and Samuel (age 2). Moved to Springfield, Cedar Co., in 1855. Daughter Ann (Anna C.) married Luman Barber 1 Jan 1856. Sons John F. and James M. went to California to work as miners until the Civil War. For some reason, they ended up enlisting in Massachussets F Co 2nd Cavalry Regiment. James mustered out 20 Jul 1865 at Fairfax, VA. John was killed at Frederick, MD on 19 Sep 1864. Do not know where Daniel went after 1860.
