My father was born Robert James Shier in 1913 and his father owned mines in the foothills of the cascades in oregon. His parents, Robert Shier and his mother died in the 1918 flue epidemic. We heard that robert's family came from Canada in the 1850's. My father, as an orphan, lived with people named Colton and took the name. We have rumors of my grandfathers marriage to an Indian woman who would be my grandmother. Are we related. What can you tell me about the Shiers? thank you...David Colton
