Hi Robin, yes more complicated and fascinating than one would believe. My mothers family came from Scotland in the early 1900's but they were really Irish Catholic. My mother's sister married a Sparling from the Meaford area of Ontario. By this time the family here had given up on the Cathlic Religion and are all protestant.

My first husband died at a young age of leukemia and although I was interested in geneology, I became much more interested in trying to find out medical conditions inherited in the families.

That's when I discovered that my present husband and my Aunt's son are cousins. Funnily enough they really look alike. They are both decendants of Joseph and Ann. They are 6th cousins. We had no idea that these people were related.
