I have just acquired some new information regarding my GG Grandfather Robert Shier, farmer. In a bible presented to his son, Robert Nicholas Shier, on joining the Royal Irish Constabulary in 1878, it states that the father i.e. the aforementioned Robert, died on 28th July 1870 and was buried on 1st August. As this date was not known before, I was wondering if it might help identify this Robert and place him in the Shier family. All clues would be gratefully received.
