Shier (Sheier) Family in Palatine

I am researching the Shier family origins. We have traced our line to Richard of the Brock Township in Ontario Canada, then back to Limerick County. We have a document written at the beggining of the 20th C by Walter C. Shier, who gives the entire tale of the exodus from Palatine Germany, but he does not give any of his sources for this information. Some time ago, my grandfather had occasion to travel to Germany and he tried to look us up, but found absolutly no record of Palatine Shiers. I have been looking at the past few years of postings and I am seeing a similar problem. How do we know where Hans (Johann) Adam Shier (Sheier) came from? Is this family mythology or does anyone have any real leads? We were thinking of going from the Limerick county side, to see if there was any information given when we arrived in Ireland, has anyone gone this route yet?
