Would like to post the maiden name of Melinda (Penland) Shields, wife of William B. Shields, b. 1820, MD. I searched for this name for many years.
Abraham Penland, father, was a farmer, buried in Penland Farm Cemetery. His military service was in the 1st Brigade, 6th Regiment, Buncombe County, 2nd Regiment Military, War of 1812. Abraham married 13 year old Frances Jones, the sister of Russell Jones. They lived on Hominy Creek for a while, west of the French Broad River, and then moved to Big Creek in Cocke Co, TN, and settled on the Wast or Gulf Fork of Big Creek.
