Jacob Shew (son of Philip Shew) was listed in the 1840 Wilkes County census at age 60-70, his wife was age 40-50, one male 20-30, one female 15-20, one male 5-10, and one female 5-10. His wife's name is not known, and she was not listed with him in the 1850 census. None of his children were listed in the 1840-1850 Wilkes County School Census, but his son Henry was listed as Head-of-household for son Wesley and daughter Julia in that census.
