My g.g.g. Grandfather, Andrew Sherwood was with a special Artillary Unit, John Lamb's 2nd NY Artillary, Thomas Machin's Company.The Dewitt Historical Society, 401 State Street in Ithaca, New York, is said to have a thick file on the Sherwood family.They are open Tu, Thur, Sat., from 11-5.Andrew enlisted in the Revolutionary War in 1777.He served as First Sargeant under Capt. Thomas Theodore Bliss and Capt. Thomas Machin.Andrew fought in the battle of Fort Montgomery, Battle of Mammouth, Battle of Yorktown 1780, and witnessed the Surrender of Cornwallis at Yorktown in 1781.George Washington was at the time a General.Andrew served until the end of the war.
