The following is information that was supplied to my brother by H. Richard Irwin of Menlo Park, CA in 1994:
There were two Thomas Sherwoods in the neighboring towns of Fairfield and Stratford in early
Fairfield Co. CT. They have been confused by persons not consulting the primary sources and
existing published research. Unfortunately, some of these confused accounts have found their
way into print and on to the www. The authoritative genealogy of this family is contained in
"History and Genealogy of the Families of Old Fairfield" edited by Donald Lines Jacobus.

Thomas came to Boston in the ship named Frances in Apr 1634 with wife Alice and the youngest
four of his children named on the passenger list. His oldest four children were not on the
passenger list. He came to Wethersfield with the first settlers, 1635, was a carpenter, and
sold his lands to George Wyllys, 25 Mar 1640. He moved to Stamford, where he lived until
1648, when he sold to John Holly and moved to Fairfield. He may have been related to Thomas
Morehouse, who's holdings adjoined his in Wethersfield, and who accompanied him in his
subsequent migrations.

His will listed all the above children.
His will listed all the above children.Despite printed accounts to the contrary, THE MAIDEN NAMES OF THOMAS'S TWO WIVES ARE UNKNOWN.
a) The maiden name of Thomas' first wife, Alice, is often listed as Seabrooke; this is
incorrect. The error derives from a confusion of the two Thomas Sherwoods of Fairfield
and Stratford.
b) The maiden name of Thomas' second wife, Mary is often reported as FITCH; this is
speculation, and is unsupported by any documentary evidence. A Mary FITCH did marry his
son Matthew.
