Hezekiah Sherwood d. Henrietta, ca 1821
From "Northfield on the Genesee" by the Monroe County Historian's Office, in April 1807, the first death of a white person in Henrietta occurred when the wife of Hezekiah Sherwood died giving birth to a daughter. Her body was consigned to a fence corner in the farm. Sherwood remarried.
On January 15, 1822, three deeds were filed relating to the Sherwoods. The first from Henrietta propietor, C. C. Six gave title to Hezekiah of his land on Middle Road. The second, given by Hezekiah and his wife Charlotte, sold the land to Samuel Sherwood. This deed was dated February 22, 1821, but by the filing date Hezekiah had died. The third deed passed the land along from Samuel Sherwood to Aldrich and Isaac Colvin with John Sherwood as a witness. It is hoped that the Sherwoods had a large house, for in the 1810 census there were 16 living in it; four boys and eight girls under 16, and two young men between 16-25.
Who were the two wives and the children of Hezekiah Sherwood? The only one identified was John Sherwood, born 5 April 1790, probably near Saratoga, who died 4 May 1874 in Plato, Kane, Illinois.
