I wrote a book back in 2001 about the Confederates in British Honduras. There is an entire chapter in it about the settlers from Natchitoches, Caddo and Morehouse who established Cattle Landing, later known as the Toledo Settlement. I visited the plantations Sherrod and Brown established in British Honduras. They had another companion named James Foley who was probably related. The book is available through McFarland and Company Press in North Carolina. www.mcfarlandpub.com,
I think?
Thanks the information. It is really so much that it is overwhelming. I need to re-read it a few times and will probably have some questions for you. We have had much difficulty tracking my Simmons ancestors. They moved a great deal, and we only recently found some of them in Alabama. They lost everything in the War. My father is doing that part of the family and I am plannig a trip to Europe this coming summer to follow some other leads. So, do you know which cemetery Sherrod is rumored to be buried in. Do you know who Mrs. S.F. Manning (age 50 in May 1869) and Miss. J. Manning (age 20) might have been? I found them in British Honduras while doing my research.
