Conrad was a son of Arnholt and Catharina Scherertz, immigrants from the Palatinate (Prussia) to York Co. PA in 1754.Conrad was married to Mary Margaret Laird on 10 Nov 1772, by Rev. J. Casper Stoever in Hanover twp. On 14 Nov 1789, Conrad and his brother, Ludwig, divided their father's inheritance.Conrad took the upper portion of land which included the fulling mill. Conrad sold his father's plantation and the fulling mill on 28 Aug 1798 for the sum of 5,400 pounds.Before the end of the year, he purchased 500 acres in Sullivan Co. TN where he lived until his death.Conrad married twice more after Mary Margaret's death, but his nine children were from his first marriage:Conrad, Jr., Catherine Elizabeth, Elizabeth, John Philip (b. 1 Aug 1783), Maria Margaret (b. 29 Oct 1785), BARBARA(b. 26 Jun 1787), Henry, Mary and Susannah.
