The Sherrod reunion was started by Isaac Sherrod in 1915.
Isaac was a descendant of Henry Sherrod (Scherertz).
In 1754 an immigrant,
Arnholts Scherertz, came to PA from Germany. He moved to York Co, PA and
went into farming and milling. He owned 2 water mills there. One was a grist
and saw mill, the other wasfulling mill. A fulling mill processed flax
into a fiber that could then be woven into cloth (linen). One of Arnholt's
sons, Conrad, moved to Sullivan Co, TN along the Virginia line and bought
several hundred acres of farmland. In 1812 he passed that land to his 3
sons, Conrad JR,John Phillip, and Henry mentioned above.
So far we have come across 58 different spellings of the name. Do you know
anything about your ancestors and where they came from? Some Sherrods are
from the English isles and are not related to us. If you can trace your
family back about 3-4 generations we may be able to tie you in somewhere.
I just looked in James Sherrods book and there was an Earl McKinley Sherrod
born 9/24/1900, married to Ada Williams. Earl was born in Osage, KS and
lived in Wichita KS. we may have hit on to something. Let me know if this is
your grandfather.
Yours,
Jerry D Sharrett
